On Friday, Feb. 21, the Esports club will be hosting its first ever Super Smash Bros tournament called “School of Smash” in room 217 of the Technology building. The venue will open at 4:30 p.m. and the singles tournament will start at 5 p.m.

There’s a $5 venue fee, but there’s a $2 discount for those who bring a Nintendo Switch, a dock, GameCube Adapter and Super Smash Bros Ultimate with all the downloadable content. The venue entry fee is waived for Moorpark College students. A separate fee of $5 is required to enter the tournament.

The president of the Esports club, Eric Casas will be collaborating with a group from Arsenal Comics that frequently hosts Smash Bros tournaments.

“As far as the collaboration goes, they will be dealing with brackets and setups, while we are providing them the venue,” Casas stated.

This will also be the first tournament held at Moorpark, as the Esports club plans to host more in the future.

“Moorpark College Students that play will have their wins and losses recorded and they will be put into a leader board that will determine if they make it into the Smash Bros Team,” Casas stated. “This allows for a competitive nature within the club.”

Aside from honor and glory, the tournament will have a prize pool funded by the entry fees, which will be awarded to the top three players of the tournament.

10% of the pool earnings will go to the third place winner, 30% will go to second place and 60% of the pool will go to the first place winner of the tournament.

Smaller prizes will given away at the tournament, donated by Tespa, a collegiate Esports organization.
